I know this isn’t the best picture in the world, but it was dark, and it was all I had. On a fine Friday evening my girlfriend and I drove down to Sacramento to the Ace of Spades venue. Tonight, they were showcasing The Story So Far, with Stickup Kids, and Elder Brothers. We get in line, and lo and behold as soon as we walk in, standing there, watching everyone walk in, is Parker Cannon. So, I went up to him, and at first, I was a little star struck because I’m actually meeting this amazing dude! So he said, “hey! what’s your name?” “robert. could you please sign these?” and I gave him my cd covers for all their albums (Under Soil & Dirt, What You Don’t See, Songs Of) he said, “yeah sure man! These all yours?” “Yes! They’re all mine!” “Well thanks for supporting us man!” “Yeah, I just wanted to tell you, your music is fantastic, and I love everything you guys all do, including your morals. Like, I seriously appreciated the fact you guys DIDN’T sign on Warped Tour.” Parker looks a little stunned and nudges shoulders with their bassist and goes, “are you hearing this kid?” (I shit you not this is what happened) and I continued on, “yeah. Like, I love the fact you guys don’t want to be idolized, and you want people to just focus on your music! I think that’s wonderful, and absolutely difficult thing to do now-a-days, but you guys do a great job with it, especially not signing things on Warped. That was huge. So thank you so much.” And Parker looked at me and goes, “wow man. You really get it. That’s amazing. That’s all we want for people, is for them to enjoy our music and just like the music. I could stand here all day and sign a million different things for people, and it’ll mean nothing to them a couple years down the road, but when I sign these (CDs) I can tell they mean something to you. And that’s all we want. We want our stuff to be meaningful, and you seem to really care. So thank YOU.” Then we got a picture and it was fantastic. And I love this picture so much. It’s not the best, but with fans taking pictures before, he was just kinda smirking and making a small smile, but in this photo I can just tell, he’s genuinely smiling. I love it.
This is lovely.
